by May 23, 2011Rhinos

The Hawks have arrested three men for being in possession of four rhino horns valued at over R1 million.

It is believed that one of the men is an international trader.

All three were nabbed at the weekend and appeared at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The Hawks’ McIntosh Polela said the men were arrested at two different locations in Bedfordview following a tip-off.

One of the accused is a Congolese national, the other is from Cameroon and the third suspect is a Taiwanese citizen.

Polela said detectives were granted additional time to build their case.

He said investigations would continue to determine whether the men are linked to a syndicate and how they came into possession of the horns.

Over 140 rhino have been poached in South Africa in 2011.
