Kibale national park is found in the western and accessed through the town of Fort Portal. The park adjoins Queen Elizabeth National Park and is a very popular ecotourism destination on the country’s safari circuit. The park is best known for its population of habituated chimpanzees. There are many other species of primates, including Baboons, Red Columbus monkey, LHoest’s monkey, Black and White Colobus monkeys that can be seen on this guided nature walk in the forest.
The National Park can be visited throughout the year and covers an area of 776 square kilometers, with many different ecosystems within its boundaries. It is primarily endowed with rainforest cover where forest elephant’s roam. These animals are smaller in size than their counterparts in the savanna. Other species include buffalos, giant forest hog, and several species of elusive antelope. There are over 335 species of birds where the extremely rare Green Breasted Pitta would be regarded the highlight of any visit. Butterflies are very numerous in the forest, with excellent knowledgeable guides to point them out for you.
The forest has a network of trails for chimpanzee tracking, bird watching and nature walks. Bird watching activities are also conducted at Bigodi wetland sanctuary on the border of the forest.
Upon arrival, you will be met by your safari guide, who will then transfer you to Lake Height Hotel or Lake Victoria or Palm Beach Hotel a stone throw from Entebbe international airport for relaxation and your overnight stay.
Day 1: Kampala- Kibale National park (Fort Portal Tourism City)
On this first day of your tour, we will enjoy a good breakfast and embark on a 4-5hr drive to Kibale National Park with several stops along the way before reaching Fort Portal town and the Park. We will arrive in the afternoon and have our lunch at one of the following lodges or hotels: Mountains of the Moon Hotel, Fort Motel, Rwenzori Travellers Inn, or Fort View Hotel. After lunch, we will tour Fort Portal and join local communities in promoting conservation through tree planting and ecotourism before checking in to Primate Lodge or Ndali Lodge or Kibale Forest Camp for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Habituation and Conservation Experience
We will wake up early and have breakfast before moving to Kibale National Park for a Chimpanzee Habituation and Conservation Experience at Kanyanchu visitors centre. This is a full-day activity, where you will see chimpanzees leaving their nests between 6:00-6:30am feeding, playing, hunting, and displaying all their behaviour before they build new nests in trees at around 7:00pm. We will have our lunch packed because we will spend the whole day in the jungle with the chimpanzees. We will return in the evening and head back to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and our overnight stay.
Day 3: Nature walk and cultural encounters
Today, we will enjoy a good breakfast before moving to Bigodi for a guided nature walk, birds and other wildlife viewing and conservation experience. We will return to the hotel for our lunch, and then move to a cultural site called ‘Amabere ga nyina mwiru’ to visit the mysterious caves, hill climbing and crater lakes viewing. At the end of the day, we will check in to Mountains of the Moon Hotel, Fort Motel or New Fort View for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Fort Portal-Entebbe international airport (Kampala)
On this last day of your tour, we will wake up at leisure for our breakfast and then we embark on an exciting road trip to Kampala with a stopover at Mubende Town for our lunch. We will arrive at Entebbe international airport in the evening to catch up with your flight back home.

What to bring?
- Wear stout shoes or walking boots suitable for steep muddy slopes.
- Gardening gloves are excellent in the forest during tree planting activities.
- Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather can be unpredictable) and insect repellent.
